Last night we were driving home and it was chilly out so we had the car windows up until we turned onto our street. Then I put mine down just enough so our mini schnauzer could joyfully stick her nose out in wind, as she so loves to do. Ahhh, the smell of fall!My husband and I noticed it immediately. A mix of rain with smoke from someone's wood-burning fireplace. Such welcome and comforting scents! Yes, it is the simple things that makes life so grand. We drank it in, acknowledging it as a reminder of what is here and a promise of what is still to come.
